Young Adult Writing Group (ages 10 and up) This week "Brainstorms & Post-it note collage!"
Monday June 27th 4:00-5:00 pm
Like to write?  Join us for our summer reading writing group
for ages 10 & up in the Young Adult Room.  This week:  Brainstorm
your writing ideas and showcase your ideas with a post-it mural on the windows of the YA room.  We will also be posting your writing to our blog "Write Away".  All are welcome!

Simon Brooks, Storyteller, Summer Reading Kick-off program! All ages!
Weds. June 29th at 10:30 am Held upstairs in the Oyster River Room
Get ready to giggle, as we kick-off the 2016 summer reading program with a special performance by award winning storyteller, Simon Brooks! Simon combines his passion for children’s literature and folklore to create fun and engaging programs for all ages!
Funding for the Kids, Books and the Arts event is provided by the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation, CHILIS, Cogswell Benevolent Trust, and is supported in part by a grant from the NH State Council on the Arts & the National Endowment for the Arts as well as funds administered by the NH State Library and provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

This week:   The Peanuts Movie!  Come see Charlie Brown, Snoopy
and the whole gang!  Popcorn is served.  Held upstairs in the Oyster
River Room.  All are welcome!

Team Art! This week: "Chihuly inspired coffee filter sculpture!"
Weds. June 29th 4:00-5:00 pm All ages!
Join us as we explore and experiment with mixed media to create incredible art. Each week we will tackle a different collaborative sculpture as a team! The pieces team members design will be assembled into a large-scale work of art that will  remain on display at the library for a period of time.
The more the merrier, and all ages are welcome!  This week:  Collaborate to build a Chihuly inspired coffee filter sculpture.

Music on the Lawn! This week: "Truffle!"
Weds. June 29th 6:30-7:30 pm All ages!
Join us for five Wednesday evenings for Music on the Lawn!
This week:  "Acoustic Truffle!"  Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic!  Truffle is a very talented local group who will have you moving all night.  This event is held rain or shine (upstairs in the Oyster River Room in case of rain).  All ages!   Don't miss it!

Boston Bruins Mascot, Blade & Ice Girls Visit!
Tues. July 19th 11:00am-12:00pm All ages! Held upstairs in the Oyster River Room
The Durham Public Library was chosen for an awesome visit from the    Boston Bruins Mascot, Blades the Bear and the Ice Girls!
Join us as we listen to the story of how Blades became a member of the Boston Bruins hockey team. After the story, we will make a  hockey mask craft to take home, play trivia games, win prizes, and participants will have a chance to get their photo taken with
Blades and the Ice Girls!

Wildlife Encounters at the Madbury Town Hall with the Durham, Lee and Madbury Libraries!
Thursday July 14th at 10:30 am All ages!
Wildlife Encounters® brings the excitement of natural & instinctive learning to the Oyster River Community through this joint library program sponsored by the Durham, Lee and Madbury libraries.
Come meet the “Faces of Nature” and learn about science and conservation. This is a live animal presentation.

  Event is held at the Madbury Town Hall.  All ages and all are welcome!


Summer Reading Finale Celebration with Bryson Lang, Juggler & Comedian!
Friday, July 29th at 10:30 am All ages! Held upstairs in the Oyster River Room
· Enjoy a hilarious act combining skillful juggling with original comedy!
· Receive your Summer Reading  program completion certificate
· Select your book prize for all Summer Reading participants
· Win door and raffle prizes from our wonderful sponsors
· Snack on some yummy cake and juice, too!

A special thank-you to the Friends of the Durham Public Library for all their support.  A big thank-you to The Sea Dogs, Bagel Works, The Candy Bar, Canobie Lake Park, Dunkin Donuts, The Durham Makery, Durham House of Pizza, Franz’s Food,  Hayden Sports, Water Country, Tacomano,  Young’s Restaurant, The Juicery, and other local businesses for their prize donations.
