| Dr. Sherlock Holmes |
|
|
|
Medicine and Mystery Fans of the popular television show "House" know
that it is based on Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories. They
may not know how
important the medical profession was to the first great detective.
Doyle was himself a doctor, and he modeled Holmes on his medical school
professor Dr. Joseph Bell. Holmes's detection is based on medical
diagnostics, and mystery writing became popular just as modern medicine
was becoming established. By examining Sherlock Holmes's detective in
the context of Doyle's medical writings, this talk offers insights into
the relationship between doctors and detectives.

|
Learn how hundreds of NH families are saving up to 40% on their annual household energy bills. You can too!
Next Step Living, an outreach partner for Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH), will provide a FREE workshop to help Peterborough families lower their energy bills, live in healthier more comfortable homes, and reduce their carbon footprint by accessing PSNH utility rebates of 50% up to $4,000 in instant incentives through the NH Home Performance with Energy Star Program.
Attendees of this FREE workshop will learn:
How you home loses heat - Building Science 101 / Your house as a system
Why an energy efficient home is a healthier home
Quick wins - What you can do to save energy in your home now!
Why utility companies provide NH families with funding to tighten up our homes and use less energy
Why windows are not the best investment from an efficiency perspective
How to access 50% up to $4,000 in utility rebates (not income based!)
Attendees of the workshop will walk away with a plan for how they can reduce energy use through simple do it yourself projects. Others will walk away with an understanding of whether their homes qualify for up to $4,000 in approved weatherization rebates through PSNH.
The NHSaves.com Heating Home Index Analyzer will be available at the workshop. Bring your last 12 months of heating usage and see if your home qualifies for up to $4,000 in utility weatherization rebates.

| Grail Mania: 21st Century Retelling of 12th Century Heresy |
|
|
|
|
The Troubadours sang
of it; courtly knights quested for it; Monty Python laughed at it. The
Chalice beckons through the mists of pre-history to bind us in its
intrigue still. Our fascination with this symbol is alive and well in
New Hampshire.
In this talk and retelling we get to understand why the
young knight Perceval’s quest for the grail has as much meaning today as
when the story was first told centuries ago. Humour and the
rich symbolism of the Middle Ages combine as willing audience members
act out a scene from a new dramatic retelling, becoming King Arthur,
Merlin, the Grieving Maiden and other characters as we mix storytelling,
acting and discussion.
