Join Us for Computer Training

New to computers? Having difficulty finding what you want on the internet? Don't know how to email? Wondering what an online database is and what it can do for you? Durham Public Library offers 3 different types of computer classes to answer these and many of your other computer related questions. They are free, but advance registration is requested. Walk-ins will be accepted for the more advanced classes if there is space. Check the Calendar for dates.

BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS

This class is for new users, to familiarize them with the fundamental elements necessary for doing everyday tasks:

  •  Turning the computer on/off safely
  •  Using the mouse
  • Keyboard commands
  •  Getting online

  SURFING THE INTERNET/ WORD PROCESSING

  •  Dealing with email
  •  Basic word processing
  •  Saving and organizing files
  • Surfing the 'net

GETTING THE MOST OUT OF THE DATABASES

  •  Finding magazine or journal articles online
  •  Getting up-to-date health care information
  •  How to use the genealogy database
  •  Search newspapers; check the encyclopedia
  •  Do research from reliable sources
