The Circulation Department
The Circulation Department at the Durham Public Library strives to provide optimum service to our patrons in satisfying their educational, informational, and recreational needs. We will assist you in applying for a library card, searching the catalog, making interlibrary loan requests and other means by which we can help you access the world of knowledge. You can call the front desk with your requests at 868-6699 or email us at mail@durhampubliclibrary.org
Getting a Library Card
It's easy to apply for a library card. Bring a picture ID or piece of mail that has your current address showing that you are a Durham resident and show it to the Circulation Librarian. Fill out an application form and the Librarian will issue you a card. Please remember to bring your card with you when you come to the library. The barcode on the card will also allow you to access your account online from home. (For more information about how to access your account, Click here.)

Durham residents may get a card for free. Students and teachers in the Oyster River School System, students from UNH, and town employees may get a library card for free. Non-residents can pay a $30 annual fee for a card.
Children can get their own cards once they can write their full name. Parents may want to consider checking out materials for young children on the parent's card as patron information is restricted by state law, RSA 201-D:11.

Online Access to Your Account
Through your online account you may view the materials you have out and the dates when they are due. You may change your password and place books on reserve. Books that are due may be renewed by calling the library.

PIN / Password
The Library will issue each patron a password with which they can access their library account online. Passwords can only be given out at the library after the patron presents identification. Passwords will not be issued over the phone. Once you access your account online (web address) you can then change it to any alpha-numeric password of at least 7 digits that you choose.
